Once a member of the Rory care team reviews your information and writes your prescription, you can choose between receiving one 5mL bottle of Latisse® every three months ($159), or one 3mL bottle monthly ($110). SkinSolutions is an online skin and hair care provider that centers around “bring[ing] the spa experience home to you.” The founders/owners are a husband-and-wife team who built and ran a successful brick-and-mortar medical spa over a decade ago. They decided to move their practice online to service patients nationwide.

As the name suggests, SkinSolutions focuses its medical services on beauty treatments and medications, including skin care, hair care and general wellness. It’s an authorized reseller of Latisse®, which the SkinSolutions doctors or nurse practitioners can write a new prescription for after an online consultation. Latisse® can then be shipped to your door through one of their partner pharmacies (Beauty Empower RX or PostMeds/TruePill), or you can transfer your prescription to the pharmacy of your choice.

SkinSolutions encourages Latisse® subscriptions by discounting pricing when you sign up for an ongoing delivery plan and offering more choices than other providers. They offer one 5mL bottle of Latisse® every 10 weeks, three months, or four months ($149 for a one-time purchase or $134 per subscription order), or one 3mL bottle monthly ($109 for a one-time purchase and $99 when you sign up for a monthly subscription).

During our review, there was also a deal for the initial payment when you chose to sign up for a subscription: $84 for the first 3mL bottle of Latisse® and $119 for the first 5mL bottle of Latisse®.

While SkinSolutions may very well be the least expensive option as far as the medication is concerned, it’s important to do some additional research as they do have a variety of paid shipping options that can increase pricing. Shipping rates and taxes vary based on where you live and SkinSolutions cannot fulfill Latisse® prescriptions in Arkansas, Indiana, Louisiana and Nevada, so make sure to factor that in before making your final decision.

Latisse® is strictly cosmetic, so any adult interested in longer, lusher, darker eyelashes is a candidate for prescription medication.

As a liquid solution, Latisse® requires daily application to the upper eyelid via a small disposable applicator. It’s a bit like applying eyeliner, so if that’s something you’re comfortable with, Latisse® should be fairly easy to use.

Latisse® has proven to be effective for many patients. In one clinical trial, 78% of participants saw a significant enhancement in their eyelash prominence after using Latisse® for sixteen weeks. Trials have also shown that, on average, eyelashes grow 25% longer, 106% fuller and 18% darker.

Studies of chemotherapy patients using Latisse® to try to grow more prominent eyelashes were promising, but similar studies of patients suffering from alopecia areata (a medical condition that causes hair loss) were mixed when it came to determining the effectiveness of Latisse®. We need more studies in order to determine how Latisse® performs relative to specific medical conditions.

The most common side effects of Latisse® are mild eye discomfort, including dry or watery eyes, itchy eyes, mild eye redness of the conjunctiva (the thin tissue over the white part of the eye) or puffy eyelids. Approximately 4% of clinical trial patients experienced these side effects.

Less common side effects may occur around the area where Latisse® was applied. These side effects include darkened eyelids, dark brown pigmentation in the iris (the colored part of the eye), eye irritation, eye dryness and redness of the eyelids. If Latisse® isn’t applied properly, hair growth around the eyes may occur where the medication runs or drips.

If you experience darkened eyelids while using Latisse®, it’s likely the darker pigmentation will fade when the medication is stopped. However, any changes in iris color are often permanent.

Generally, Latisse® is safe and effective for many people, but if you have concerns about the potential side effects it’s important to discuss them in detail with your medical care provider. If you are prone to severe allergic reactions, it’s especially important to let your provider know.

Ultimately it will be up to you and your prescribing doctor, dermatologist or nurse practitioner to determine whether Latisse® is right for you.

Latisse®, or bimatoprost ophthalmic solution, is the first and only FDA-approved treatment to increase eyelash growth. With consistent application of the solution along the lash line of your upper eyelid, Latisse® progressively encourages the growth of longer, thicker and darker eyelashes.

For optimal results, you need to use the medication daily for at least eight weeks. Full results appear after sixteen weeks. Eyelash improvements remain as long as you continue to use Latisse®. When you stop, your eyelashes will eventually return to their original appearance.

It’s unclear exactly how Latisse® works. In fact, it was originally formulated to treat glaucoma (and still does under the brand name Lumigan®) by reducing eye pressure that can cause pain and adversely affect vision.

We do know that Latisse® keeps eyelashes in the growth stage for a longer period than usual and stimulates the transition from an inactive growth phase to an active growth phase. It’s just not clear why this happens.

It’s not likely that Latisse® is helping people grow new eyelashes. But some patients who lost their eyelashes during chemotherapy have responded positively to Latisse®.

The science behind how and why Latisse® works is still a bit of a mystery, but it is clear that most patients begin to see results in about three to four weeks.

Eyelash hypotrichosis (or thin eyelashes) can be the result of underlying medical issues, or simply routine wear and tear. Alopecia areata (hair loss), thyroid conditions, and even skin cancer can cause eyelashes to thin or fall out in different ways. It’s important to understand what is causing the problem before you can fix it.

However, if your primary concern is enhancing your eyelashes, Latisse®, also known as bimatoprost ophthalmic solution, is the best, most effective treatment available today. It’s the only FDA-approved, prescription medication for people with inadequate eyelashes. While there are many competitors on the market (especially online) that claim their product enhances eyelash growth, Allergan is the only pharmaceutical company that makes Latisse®. They have a patent that doesn’t expire until 2025, which means there will not be a competing generic option until then.

Ensure your provider is getting brand name Latisse® from Allergan before buying. You’ll need a prescription, so it should be easy to confirm with your medical provider if you’re unsure.
